magic.

my life is very boring and very normal...just to let you know.

i went downtown a few days ago and noticed on one street...and one street alone, stand twelve yerberia shops. i spent tons of time with my grandmother in mexico growing up and i remember all her intense stories about mexican women and their belief in this magic. it was super cute of her to get all caught up in these stories. all that aside, i decided to go into them and browse. from their reactions to me i don't think they see many "browsers." well i found a few items that were super random, mostly bought to ease suspicion, but none the lessss purchased:

some graveyard dirt: use: cause unnatural illness to enemies, or get in touch with ancestral spirits. ummm, i suppose if i had to choose one method of use i would go with the latter.

cloth voodoo doll: use: obvious. i doubt that i will ever play with this one though...its funny though, good and representative of that street downtown.

it was really interesting to see these things first hand...then there was the last place. it had a dead chicken looking animal hanging above the door entrance, it was rough. indoors was really tiny and crowded...in the front room were two women gathering supplies and placing them into a brown paper sack...it was literally a scene out of some federico garcia-lorca drama. they were being frantic and a baby was in the backroom crying and crying...all items were being taken into the baby backroom, and for the first two minutes the women averted all eye contact, as soon as the cries became just a bit more vicious...they asked what we needed to purchase and kind of cornered us out of there.

the entire street smelled like burning incense. im sure i smelled like incense as well. it was interesting.
